In 2008, North Carolina suffered from the worst drought in recorded history. The Drought Management Act was signed into law in July 2008. The law expands the ability of the governor and local communities to respond when drought conditions worsen and encourages greater planning, conservation and cooperation. While conditions have improved over the last few months, parts of North Carolina remain in drought. North Carolinians are encouraged to continue water conservation habits adopted during the recent drought, to help with any future deficits the state may face. |
